Children’s Church

Jesus said, “let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14). Children’s church is one of the ways that we respond to that call from Jesus.

Our 10.30am service begins with everyone upstairs together for a time of all-age worship. During term-time the children then go to their Children’s Church groups:

(0-5s) meet in the Grow Room. All parents and carers stay with their children for the first 15 minutes, for a lively interactive session of songs, Bible teaching and prayer. Parents of children aged 3+ then return upstairs, and parents of babies and toddlers stay with their children. The Children’s Church team lead the children in games, reading, songs, crafts and free play, in our fully-equipped comfortable play space. It’s a wonderful opportunities for whole families to grow in their faith together.

The 5-11 year olds meet in the Cafe Room for an action-packed session of energetic games, interactive Bible teaching, reflective prayer, creative crafts, Lego and marble runs. Throughout the year we focus on the Old Testament in the autumn term, the life of Jesus in the spring term, and the Early Church in the summer term. The children are given lots of opportunities to use their gifts in serving others, for example through carol singing together for local elderly residents, writing letters to persecuted Christians around the world, and baking cakes to support our partners working with orphanages in Nigeria.

During school holidays, we run extended Sunday Sunbeams for 0-7 year olds, and children older than 7 are encouraged to enjoy the service upstairs.

Seasonal events:

Every half-term we host a Children’s Church party, an extended time of fun, games and fellowship for the children of St.Luke’s. During the school holidays we host Family Creative Craft Days for local families to come and enjoy quality time working on fun craft projects together.

At Christmas and Easter we partner with Mudchute Farm for our Live Nativity and Easter Procession, with donkeys and sheep, for the whole community.

We are passionate about seeing the love and power of Jesus bring hope to the families of our community – we have seen Him at work in our own families, and many others, and we love being alongside children and parents on their journey of faith. Please speak to us if you’d like to join the adventure.
